What a lovely week we have had in 5D! From writing ballads to researching the Great Barrier Reef. 5D have shown themselves to be great researchers and I'm sure they will be great report writers next week too. We were in the Science lab again this week, investigating how to get salt back once it had dissolved into water. We had to wait a long time for the water to evaporate so carried on the investigation in the classroom! But we eventually evaporated the water to leave the salt! Next week will have the interesting task of making modrock models of famous structures from around the world. You might want to send an old shirt / apron in as I think it might get a bit messy! Well done Farah for getting Star of the Week this week for her brilliant ballad! After our lovely 4 day weekend to celebrate Eid last week we have crammed lots of great things into our short week. We have been studying The Highwayman more and learning how to recite and perform poetry clearly, confidently and with expression and tone. The children have loved trying to read the poem with suitable expression in their voices. We have now had a go at rewriting the ending, writing in the style of a ballad. The children have found this quite challenging but are already producing some lovely writing. We will complete these next week. Well done Alex Troyan for getting our Star of the Week this week for his effort towards everything he has done since he started at JPS this term! We have been doing lots of exciting things in our lessons over the last few weeks. We have been to the Science Lab and have investigated how to separate materials according to their properties and how absorbent materials are. We have been studying poetry this week, including The Highwayman by Alfred Noyes and The British by Benjamin Zephaniah. The children have really enjoyed reading these poems and discussing the language and style of them. I can't wait to see our performances of The Highwayman next week! |
