The children have all completed there Science Alfie test on lifecycles this week.
Well done to Reem and Aadi for receiving the achievement award this week:)
Following on from the homework a couple of weeks ago the children have been discussing the question 'Should migrants be allowed to travel to Europe?' They have been looking for reasons 'for' and 'against' and working on evidence to support both arguments.
The children have all completed there Science Alfie test on lifecycles this week. Well done to Reem and Aadi for receiving the achievement award this week:) In 5G this week we have continued with our optical illusion art, which the children have been creating with a lot of care and patience. During English this week, we have continued with Discussion writing with a focus on migration and whether people should be allowed to travel to Europe.
Well done to all those girls from 5G who took part in the zumba performance in assembly, you did a great job! Have a great weekend everyone:) Eggciting times was had by all in science this week as we investigated the life cycle of a bird. As part of our learning the children cracked open an egg to see and label the various parts. In English this week we learnt and wrote about cinquain poems and they all wrote their own. We were a little naughty and wrote one about Mr.Campion! The children had a great opportunity to watch the Royal Marine Band play at JC this week which was excellent!
In English this week we have been looking at features of News reports, looking at biased and balanced, speech punctuation, higher level vocabulary and emotive language. The children have started to write their own reports on a natural disaster which will be finished off next week. We have started our new topic on Migration which has led to lots of discussion of what the push and pull factors of Migration are and also looked at case studies. 5G will have their CAT's test on Tuesday morning. Please ensure the children come to school on time and have had a good breakfast in the morning :) The children have all come back to a very busy week! A huge welcome to Paul who have just joined 5G, the class have all made him feel very welcome. I was very impressed with the standard of swimming at the gala this week, well done to all of you that took part. "I enjoyed the gala because it was fun and the end was very exciting to hear about which House won!" (Jack) "It was great fun!" (Ombeline) Today, as you’ll be aware was Science day, the children all looked fantastic dressed in various Age Groups and Scientists! Please have a look at our Ageing Booth photographs below...WOW! A special well done to all the children (Jack, Ben, Sahil, Melina, Ananya and Gabby) who took part in the Makers Fair, they did a grand job with their inventions. "It was amazing and I've never experienced anything like it!" (Ben) "I enjoyed telling all about my groups invention to other year groups." (gabby) "I really liked other people's inventions as much as telling other people about my own!" (Melina) It was great seeing the children at the Spring Fair last weekend, it was a fab day and everyone looked lie they were having a lot of fun! The children have been using speaking and listening skills this week when teaching the class about a world leader of their choice (will be continued next week). In Topic the children were engaged learning about Rosa Parks and how her refusal to give up her seat on a Montgomery bus helped end public segregation. They then went onto learn about Martin Luther King's famous "I Have a Dream" speech, emphasizing his belief that someday all men could be brothers. The children used this inspiration to write there own 'I have a dream' speech for how they would like the World to be today.
Please look at the Head of Year notice page for more details of our learning and what we'll be covering next week. Have a great week:) Well done 5G for your wonderful presentations on Queen Elizabeth, you did a great job teaching other Year 5 classes. In English we've been creating Power Point Presentations on a leader that we've learnt about during the class museums.
Our Science focus in Sound continued this week and the children learnt about the most effective size of a megaphone. Please see the Year 5 Head of Year newsletter for more details of what we're learning! Have a great weekend :)
